House Dust Mite Control Program

House Dust Mites
House dust mite populations are highest around human and pet bedding. They like moist conditions, moderate temperatures and an ample supply of human and animal skin scales and other debris.

House dust mites are too small to see, like the dark and like to live in feathers, blankets mattresses, bed clothes, carpets and soft furnishings. Millions of them live in the cleanest of homes.

Bosisto’s Eucalyptus Dust Mite Wash kills dust mites
Bosisto's Eucalyptus Dust Mite Wash has been shown to be highly effective in killing and controlling house dust mites.

Bosisto’s Eucalyptus Dust Mite Wash in the laundry wash and Bosisto's Eucalyptus Spray sprayed in the room combine to form a very potent house dust mite control program.

3 PART CONTROL PROGRAM

Part 1 - Spray

Spray the room with Bosisto’s Eucalyptus Spray

  • Remove all bedding, blankets and bed coverings which can be washed, and set aside for laundering (see Part 2).
  • Open windows and doors.
  • Turn off all heaters, lights and electrical appliances and extinguish naked flames.
  • Cover polished wood, acetate and acrylic plastic and delicate fabrics with plastic sheets.
  • Hold Bosisto’s Spray about 20cm from surfaces and spray with a sweeping motion over the area to be treated.
  • Mattresses, pillows, base covers, carpets, rugs, soft furnishings, couches, curtains, soft toys and pet areas should all be sprayed.
  • Allow 15 seconds of spray for each square metre (each can of Spray will cover an area of 15-20 square metres).
  • Leave for one or two hours.
  • Vacuum all areas sprayed using a strong vacuum cleaner with a very fine filter bag (2ply bag or similar). The special filter bag is essential to remove dust mite allergens, normal vaccuming will just circulate them in the air.
  • Repeat monthly. Vacuum as little as possible between treatments.

Precautions: Bosisto’s Spray is flammable so do not spray near heat or open flames. Do not light or smoke cigarettes during treatment. Avoid continuous spray contact with skin. Patch test a hidden area first before spraying plastic surfaces or delicate fabrics.

Part 2 - Treat

Wash bedding, coverings and bedclothes.

  • Remove all washable bedding, coverings and bedclothes to be washed with Bosisto’s Eucalyptus Dust Mite Wash.
  • Place items in the washing machine.
  • Fill the machine with warm water.
  • To every 40 litres of warm water (30oC) add 110mL of Bosisto’s Eucalyptus Dust Mite Wash (110mL is enough for one double blanket).
  • Mix for one minute, ensuring items are fully wetted in the eucalyptus/water solution.
  • Allow to soak for 30-60 minutes (60 minutes is most effective). If the water level drops add water to fill the machine to normal level.
  • Wash on appropriate cycle.
  • Other normal laundry detergents or washing liquids are not needed.
  • If preferred, items can be soaked in a tub prior to laundering – for every 10 litres of water, use 25mL of Bosisto’s Eucalyptus Dust Mite Wash.
  • Repeat at least monthly.

Part 3 - Maintain

To help keep fabrics fresh and allergen-free in between treatments, use Bosisto’s EucoFresh Allergen Wash - a gentle, laundry liquid suitable for everyday use.
It can be used in place of your normal laundry detergent to help keep dust mites under control, leaving fabrics with a fresh, crisp bushland scent.

For additional information refer to directions for use on the label.
