Therapik has been clinically proven to provide temporary relief of the pain and itch from the bites and stings of thousands of different species of insects. Therapik works after an application of 20 to 30 seconds on the bites and stings of most mosquitoes, flies, ants, ticks, bees, wasps and jellyfish. The venom injected by many types of insect species can cause pain and itching. Therapik is based on a very simple, scientifically proven principal. Therapik's soothing heat relieves the pain and itching by increasing localized blood flow to the affected area.
Indications
Therapik is effective against over 20,000 different species of insect stings & bites. It is clinically proven against mosquitos, flies, bees, hornets, wasps and jelly fish as well as ants, spiders and ticks.
How it Works
Scientific evidence supports the use of heat treatment for insect stings due to the thermolabile properties of the venom. Thermolability is defined as instability or the loss of characteristic properties when heated to or above 50°C.
Up to 20,000 species of insects and sea creatures are known to have thermolabile venoms that may be destroyed by the application of heat. The most common sources of painful venomous stings are hymenopterous insects (wasps, bees, hornets, etc.) and sea creatures such as jellyfish, weaver fish and scorpion fish.
The pain from such stings is produced by small biogenic amines (principally, histamine and serotonin) or peptides that stimulate the release of histamine by cells in the organism that has been stung. Prompt destruction or inactivation of the venom interrupts the release of histamine, thus preventing or relieving the discomfort of the sting.
Certain other insects cause itching, pain and/or irritation that is not caused by thermolabile venom, but is still relieved by the application of heat. In these cases, heating the skin appears to soothe such irritating effects by increasing blood flow and improving the cutaneous defence mechanism.
Directions for Use
1. Make sure the area is dry and remove all moisture with a tissue.
2. Immediately after the bite or sting, place the round applicator tip gently on the surface of the skin where you were bitten or stung.
3. To activate, press and hold the large blue activation button.
Keep the button pressed as long as the heat is bearable on the skin; average application time is 20 to 30 seconds. If you feel the heat may be burning skin, stop the treatment immediately.
For best results, use Therapik as soon as you have been bitten.
However, it is still effective the next day.
Note: If the application feels too hot you may be applying too much pressure. The gentle placement of Therapik on the treatment area, allows for a comfortable thermal therapy treatment. Therapik heats to 52 to 55°C.
If symptoms persist, Therapik may be applied several times until relief is obtained. Wait at least 60 seconds between each application.
Warning: Improper use of Therapik may result in burning of the skin.
Refer to Precautions and Directions before application.
